Kurti hosts Hamza for talks, discuss verdict against former KLA leaders

Kosovo’s prime minister Albin Kurti on Thursday received Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza for talks, a day after the first-instance verdict announced by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against four former KLA leaders.

The meeting discussed the verdict against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, which Kurti assessed as unjust, harsh and carrying far-reaching consequences.

According to the government announcement, Prime Minister Kurti stressed that the verdict must be changed in a positive direction at the appeals stage.

“Assessing the verdict as unjust, harsh and with far-reaching consequences, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that it must be changed in a positive direction at the appeals stage,” the announcement states.

Kurti and Hamza shared their views and impressions of yesterday’s ruling and also discussed the ways and means that must be followed to seek its correction in further proceedings.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti and PDK leader Bedri Hamza pledged regular and direct communication on issues of public, state and national interest.

In the announcement, the government stressed that the resistance of the people of Kosovo and the liberation war were just and necessary on the road to freedom and independence.

“The Kosovo Liberation Army was the organized response of Albanians to a repressive state regime like that of Milošević’s Serbia’s Yugoslavia, whose crimes are documented: from systematic repression to apartheid, from the denial of fundamental human and civil rights to ethnic cleansing and genocide,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in its announcement./Telegrafi/
