Kurti: This weekend is decisive for the president — meeting with Hamza expected today
Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti has said communications have begun with political party leaders regarding an agreement on electing the country’s president, as KosovaPress reports. Kurti made the statements on Friday, during the International Conference on Women’s Empowerment.
“We have begun communications. Naturally, this weekend is decisive for reaching an agreement, so that next week we have a new president,” Kurti said, according to KosovaPress reporting.
Kosovo must elect a president by October 6, otherwise the country goes to new parliamentary elections, which under the deadline must be held by November 15 at the latest. The 60-day deadline for electing the head of state was set by the Constitutional Court.
Meanwhile, as Gazeta Nacionale has learned, LVV chairman Albin Kurti and PDK chairman Bedri Hamza will meet again this afternoon, with the meeting’s topic being the draft law amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the issue of the president. The news of today’s meeting is also confirmed by Klan Kosova.
Kurti gave no further details about the content of the communications or the possible candidate’s name, while stressing that the aim is for the agreement to be reached during this weekend and for the president to be elected next week.
