Lolly Adefope as Mary Todd Lincoln in ‘Oh, Mary!’ in London: first photos from Trafalgar Theatre

London has a new Mary Todd Lincoln: Playbill published today the first photos of Lolly Adefope in the role of Mary in the West End’s “Oh, Mary!”, after the actress made her debut at Trafalgar Theatre on September 28.

The BAFTA-nominated Adefope, known for her role as Kitty in the series “Ghosts”, took over the role from Jinkx Monsoon and will hold it until December 5. Alongside her perform Lucy Frederick as the Chaperone, J.R. Ballantyne as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant, Vinnie Heaven as Mary’s Teacher and Syrus Lowe as Mary’s Husband; UK casting was directed by Stuart Burt, as Playbill reports.

“Oh, Mary!”, written by Cole Escola and directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton, portrays Mary Todd Lincoln as a cabaret-mad alcoholic in the weeks before Abraham Lincoln’s assassination — “through the eyes of an idiot”, as the team itself describes it. After its Off-Broadway premiere at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024 and its transfer to Broadway (Lyceum Theatre), where it broke box-office records and won two Tony Awards in 2025 (Escola and Pinkleton), the comedy landed in the West End on December 18, 2025 and won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play, according to WhatsOnStage.

The London production has been selling successfully for a long time — which is why the appointment of Adefope, one of Britain’s most beloved comic actresses, was greeted with enthusiasm by theatre audiences. The actress is currently on her ten-week tour, while the production is booking until January 2, 2027.
