“More Than All the Sky”: Carolee Carmello leads three industry readings of the new musical

As Playbill reports, the new musical “More Than All the Sky” will receive three industry presentations this month, on 9, 10 and 11 October, with a cast led by Carolee Carmello and a creative team that includes Lori Ada Jaroslow (book and lyrics), Morgan Hollingsworth (music) and director-choreographer Lisa Stevens.

The reading cast is led by the well-known Broadway actress Carolee Carmello (“Kimberly Akimbo”), together with Eric Anderson (“Waitress”) as Robert Harris and Alyssa Carol (“Water for Elephants”) as the older Lenna Harris. The cast also includes John Cardoza, Ben Fankhauser, Jordan Gelber, Julia Murney, Kacie Sheik, Danny Wolohan and Kendra Kassebaum.

The musical follows Lenna Harris, a young woman struggling with addiction who returns home to confront the family trauma left behind by her mother, a victim of the opioid epidemic — while the spirit of J.M. Barrie’s ‘Peter Pan’ characters, embodied in the figures of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, helps her find a new direction in life.

Industry readings are an important step in the life of a new American musical: they serve producers, investors and theatre owners, who use them to assess whether a production deserves to move to the stage. After ten years of development, the team is now awaiting this assessment.
