Convicted of murdering his wife, 49-year-old found dead in Rec prison

A 49-year-old man serving his sentence in Rec prison was found lifeless inside the facility. The victim was identified as Agron Llapushi, convicted of murdering his wife in 2015.

According to preliminary data, Llapushi was found hanged in the shower area. Suicide is suspected, while the full circumstances of the event are being verified by the authorities.

Llapushi was from the Gramsh area and was serving a sentence of 24 years and 4 months in prison. He had been arrested in April 2015, after the murder of his wife, Alketa Llapushi.

The crime for which he was convicted occurred in Gramsh, where the 39-year-old (at the time) killed his wife after returning from emigration in Greece.

After the crime, he turned himself in to the police and admitted responsibility. At the time, the Serious Crimes Prosecution had requested life imprisonment, but the court imposed the sentence of 24 years and 4 months for the criminal offense of “Murder due to family relations.”

According to secured data, during his sentence Llapushi had very rare contact with family members. He is recorded as having received only two visits, in 2023 and 2025. Llapushi and his wife were parents of two children, who were still minors at the time of the crime.

Investigations continue to determine the dynamics of the event and the circumstances that led to the convict’s death.
