Manojlović urges citizens to rally tomorrow before the prosecution in New Belgrade: ‘We will demand criminal proceedings against Šapić and his detention’
Savo Manojlović, leader of the “Kreni-promeni” movement, has called on citizens to gather tomorrow at noon before the Prosecutor’s Office in New Belgrade, to demand the launch of criminal proceedings against Belgrade mayor Aleksandar Šapić and his detention, as Serbian portal Nova.rs reports.
At a press conference, Manojlović said citizens are dissatisfied with the current situation and consider it essential that the institutions of the system react to the inappropriate behavior of public officials. He stressed that the “irregularities happening in Belgrade” must end and that the legal accountability of those in power must be guaranteed.
Manojlović urged all citizens, organizations and associations to join the protest and demand justice together. He emphasized that it is important for the people’s voice to be heard and to show that citizens stand united in the fight against corruption.
The conference was also attended by other activists and opposition party representatives, who backed Manojlović’s call, voicing concern over the current situation in Belgrade and appealing to citizens to get involved in pressuring the authorities to react.
The call comes after the incident for which Šapić was taken by police to the New Belgrade station over the attack on “Kreni-promeni” councilor Tanja Mićić, and was later released. Šapić has denied hitting the councilor, saying he pushed her in self-defense.
