MPs’ homes targeted, Finland investigates suspected burglary cases
Finland is investigating a “considerable” number of suspected break-ins at MPs’ homes, while the country’s President, Alexander Stubb, has described the case as an “attack on democracy.”
According to the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, several MPs have reported in recent days that they noticed signs of a break-in at their homes.
“It is possible that these signs were left deliberately in a specific place, where the residents could see them,” Jussi Halla-aho said at a press conference.
He did not specify the exact number of MPs whose homes bore these signs, referring only to a “considerable” number, nor did he say whether there were specific suspects.
During a trip to northern Finland, Stubb described the case as “an attack on democracy,” without giving further details.
In a statement, Helsinki police confirmed that they had “launched a preliminary investigation into this case” and declined to comment further.
