New political platform “Stega – Evropski klub 28” officially launches and announces participation in the 2027 elections
The new political platform “Stega – Evropski klub 28” today officially launched its work and announced its political participation in the elections scheduled for June 13, 2027, as RTCG reports.
The founders stressed that they are not a political party, but a platform for uniting intellectuals, professionals and young people who want to replace their public activity so far with concrete political engagement. The press conference was held in front of the monument to the Partisan fighter in Gorica, Podgorica.
“Stega is the new political answer for a new political time in Montenegro. Real changes in society cannot be achieved only with analyses, criticism and public appearances, but with concrete action, which at this moment also means political participation ahead of the coming elections. We are here to offer new energy, professionalism and a clear vision for a civic and European Montenegro,” it was said at the press conference, as RTCG reported.
Admiral Dragan Samardžić, one of the platform’s constituents, said that the time Montenegro is living in leaves no room for passivity: “We are not allowed the comfort of staying at home and letting someone else fix our state for us. We do not need to be in the same organisation or think alike, but we must know what is not negotiable. There is no compromise when it comes to the civic and multiethnic character of Montenegro, secularity, the rule of law and the country’s European future. Montenegro must remain firmly anchored in NATO and be a member of the EU.”
Political scientist and doctoral candidate Alek Barović said the platform consists of people known for their public activity in recent years, but who do not want to stop only at criticism and writing: “It is not right and honest to only say how things should be; the moment has come when we must roll up our sleeves and, by our own example, try to change something.” He added that “Stega” is inspired by the first Montenegrin law, whose essence was the call for unity and joint struggle.
Jovan Čavor, a doctor of applied linguistics who has lived in New Zealand for three decades, said he had long waited for a group that would feel the responsibility to offer something to Montenegro, instead of taking something from it. “Stega – Evropski klub 28” will act as a platform of free citizens and intellectuals and will represent the values that support its name. “We do not want to have the form of a classic political subject, but we want to attract free-thinking individuals, without always waiting for the political subjects, whose behaviour shows that we do not have enough sensitivity to the urgency in which our country finds itself,” Čavor stressed, as RTCG reports.
Director Danilo Marunović said the platform represents a new generation that decided to take the initiative and leave its comfort zone: “Public pressure was great for those who for years had been critics of social and political circumstances to take responsibility and engage concretely. Today we present here a new generation of Montenegrins that is ready to continue this struggle.” He recalled the protests held in Gorica, as well as those of July 13 and December 19. “Stega” promised that in the coming period it will present its plan and programme of action.
