Nobel week begins with the prize for Medicine

STOCKHOLM, 5 October /ATSH-DPA/ – Nobel Prize week begins today with the announcement of the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, at 11:30 in Stockholm.

During this week, the winners of the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Peace will also be announced.

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, meanwhile, will be announced on the Monday of the following week.

Each of these prizes is worth 12 million Swedish kronor, around 1.2 million dollars.

The prizes will be presented to the winners on 10 December, the anniversary of the death of the prizes’ founder, Alfred Nobel.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be presented in Oslo, while the other prizes will be presented in Stockholm.

Last year, three scientists from Japan and the United States of America shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their research on the immune system.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine may be awarded to a single researcher or shared between two or three scientists who have worked in the same field. /
