The new academic year begins, more than 20,000 students in lecture halls

Students across the country today began the new 2026–2027 academic year, while more than 20,000 of them are sitting in lecture halls for the first time.

As in previous years, public universities account for the largest share of admissions. About 70% of young people have chosen public universities, while 30% have preferred private higher education institutions.

Among this year’s most preferred fields of study for high school graduates are General Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has reopened applications for completing the A1Z form on the “e-Albania” portal, for candidates who wish to take part in the third round of admissions to higher education institutions.

Applications will be open until 6 October, from 08:00 to 16:00, through the “e-Albania” portal.

The third round of applications for high school graduates will take place from 8 to 21 October 2026. After the registration process is completed, on 21 October, the number of new students is expected to exceed 21,000.
