PDK Ahead of the Hague Verdict: Kosovo Awaits Justice, We Will Defend the Truth About the KLA War
Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Përparim Gruda declared that about 18 hours remain until the announcement of one of the most important verdicts for Kosovo and its citizens.
At a media conference, Gruda said the PDK has believed throughout these years that there will be justice and expects the decision to be based on evidence and equal standards.
“About 18 hours remain until the announcement of one of the most important verdicts for Kosovo and our citizens. As the PDK, throughout these years we have believed there will be justice and tomorrow Kosovo awaits justice,” Gruda said.
He said the decision must be based on evidence and the truth.
“We expect a decision based on evidence, with equal standards and with the truth. We expect a decision that brings justice, calm and that respects the historical reality that we as a people have lived,” he declared.
Gruda stressed that Kosovo’s history cannot be rewritten, recalling the violence and crimes committed during the war.
“For decades we experienced the violence, expulsions, murders and crimes committed against our people. Kosovo’s history cannot be rewritten, it is known who was the aggressor and who was the victim,” the PDK MP said.
He expressed hope that the verdict will bring celebration and that, according to him, the liberators will return to the homeland.
“Tomorrow we expect there to be celebration, that justice triumphs and the liberators return to their homeland,” Gruda said.
The PDK MP declared that his party believes in the innocence of the former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders facing the judicial process in The Hague.
“We strongly believe in the innocence of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi,” Gruda said.
However, he warned that the PDK will react if, in his view, it faces an unjust decision.
“If we face injustice, we will not be silent and we will not surrender to it. We will oppose it with determination, with arguments, with all the legal and democratic means we have at our disposal,” he declared.
Gruda said the KLA war must not be placed on the same level as the state policy of the Serbian regime.
“We cannot accept that the KLA war be placed on the same level as the state policy of the aggressor, of the Serbian regime,” he said.
In the end, Gruda called on international partners and political actors in Kosovo to show maturity.
“We ask our international partners and friends for justice based on evidence, European standards and Kosovo’s historical truth,” Gruda said.
He also said the PDK has followed with concern several public reactions of recent days, which, according to him, have created unnecessary anxiety among citizens.
“All political actors must show maturity and care,” Gruda concluded.
