Robert Pattinson’s ‘Primetime’ closes opening weekend with $19.2 million — the third-biggest opening in A24 history
The A24 film “Primetime”, starring Robert Pattinson as the famed “To Catch a Predator” host Chris Hansen, closed its opening weekend (September 25–27) with about $19.2 million in North America, according to Sunday morning estimates, as Screen Rant reports.
The result makes “Primetime” the third-best debut in A24 history — after “Backrooms” ($81.4 million) and “Civil War” ($25.5 million) — surpassing “Marty Supreme” ($15.7 million). It is also the biggest opening ever for an A24 film headlined by Pattinson, leaving “The Drama” ($14.4 million) behind.
In the overall weekend rankings, “Primetime” placed fourth in North America, behind the re-release of “Avengers: Endgame” in first, “Resident Evil” in second and Brad Pitt’s “Heart of the Beast” in third.
The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and marks the feature directorial debut of Lance Oppenheim. The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo, Merritt Wever, Phoebe Bridgers and Anna Faris. The story is based on the Esquire article “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die,” was made on a $14.5 million budget and holds 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. From Thursday previews alone, the film had collected $2.7 million.
