Second Tanker Hit in the Strait of Hormuz in a Day, UKMTO Reports — No Injuries

A second tanker has been struck by “debris from an unidentified projectile” in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency announced on Monday — the second incident in the strategic strait within 24 hours.

According to UKMTO, the vessel was sailing outbound near Tawakkul Island when it reported the strike. There are no injuries among the crew and no environmental damage; the ship will continue to its next port.

The incident comes just hours after a similar attack on another vessel in the strait, at a time when maritime traffic through Hormuz has fallen to historically low levels amid the blockade and mutual threats between the U.S. and Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz remains the world’s main oil artery, and every new incident there heightens fears of supply disruptions and higher fuel prices.
