Day of All Macedonian Saints: today in Skopje the 40th anniversary of Archbishop Stefan’s episcopal service is celebrated
Today, Sunday 4 October, the Macedonian Orthodox Church celebrates the Synaxis of All Macedonian Saints — as Ohrid1 reports, on the first Sunday of October the Church remembers with glory and honour all the Macedonian saints, whose works are important not only for the Macedonian people, but for the whole Christian world.
On this occasion, as Centar.mk reports, at 9:00 a solemn joint liturgical celebration is being held at the “St. Clement of Ohrid” cathedral in Skopje, which also marks the 40th anniversary of the episcopal service of His Beatitude, the Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia, Mr. Stefan; the faithful are invited to take part in the joint prayer.
The feast is the day of joint remembrance of more than 40 saints of Macedonian origin — among them the Thessalonian brothers Cyril and Methodius, St. Clement of Ohrid and St. Naum of Ohrid — who over two millennia contributed in different ways to the affirmation of Christianity in these lands and beyond.
The “St. Clement of Ohrid” cathedral in Skopje, designed by architect Slavko Brezovski and consecrated in 1990 after 18 years of construction, is today the largest cathedral of the Macedonian Orthodox Church — its 36×36 metre rotunda, composed only of domes and arches, is among the most distinctive examples of contemporary Macedonian architecture.
