Đilas replies to Dačić: “A shameless statement” — October 5 was not a fraud, but the overthrow of the worst regime

Dragan Đilas, first on the “Europe Serbia” list and chairman of the Party of Freedom and Justice, has hit back sharply at SPS leader Ivica Dačić, after the latter called 5 October 2000 “the biggest fraud in the history of Serbia”, as Danas reports.

“Ivica Dačić’s shameless statement that October 5 is the biggest fraud represents the height of political shamelessness and clear proof that the pre-election campaign of Dačić, Vučić and Šešelj is determined to return Serbia completely to the dark years of the nineties,” Đilas declared.

“When the spokesman of the worst regime in the history of this country calls October 5 ‘the biggest fraud’, we are obliged to remind him and his radical partners of the historical facts they desperately try to erase,” he added.

Dačić, as the Nasportal portal writes, said on Saturday in Smederevo that “a new October 5 must not be allowed” and that after the changes of 2000 pensioners were left without pensions, workers were massively dismissed from their jobs, while students were charged tuition fees — calling it “the most disappointed expectation and the biggest fraud in the history of Serbia”.

The fierce debate comes in the middle of the campaign for the early parliamentary elections of 25 October, just one day before the anniversary of 5 October 2000, the date when Slobodan Milošević was overthrown after the presidential elections.
