Spain unstoppable, Scotland and Switzerland also win
Spain, with a renewed defence and attack, achieved a 3-1 victory in Oviedo against the Czech Republic. Lamine Yamal broke the deadlock after 6 minutes with his fourth goal in his last three international matches. In the 35th minute, Rodri doubled the score, closing the first half. The Czechs got back into the game with Slama’s goal in the 65th minute, but that was all, because Merino at the end of the match settled everything. The match ended 3-1 in Oviedo, with the reigning world and European champions securing their third consecutive victory in the Nations League.
Scotland won 2-0 in Skopje against North Macedonia, securing their first success in this season’s Nations League. Pocognoli’s team practically dominated the whole match, taking the lead in just nine minutes thanks to a fine goal by Bowie. The second goal came from a McGinn penalty in the 69th minute, with the Scots reduced to ten men in the final minutes after a red card for McKenna.
Switzerland, for their part, secured their third consecutive victory, 2-1 against Slovenia, despite being struck after two minutes of play by a Vipotnik goal. They turned everything around in the first half thanks to an own goal by Janza and a goal by Ndoye. Switzerland lead Group 1 of League B with nine points, followed by Slovenia and Scotland, both on four. North Macedonia close the group with zero points.
