Tanja Mićić testifies to police over Mayor Šapić attack — citizens and opposition demand his detention and removal
Tatjana Tanja Mićić, a Kreni-Promeni councillor in the Belgrade City Assembly, appeared today at New Belgrade Police to give testimony and hand over medical documentation following the incident with Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Šapić, as Nova.rs reports. According to medical documentation published earlier, Mićić suffered a broken nasal bone and part of her upper jaw, with displacement of the broken parts.
As N1 reports, dozens of citizens greeted Mićić outside the police station with loud applause and chants of “Tanja, we love you.” Activists and citizens blocked the road near the New Belgrade Police building in support of the councillor, who went inside to give her testimony and hand police the full medical documentation for her injuries.
Lawyer and Kreni-Promeni member Iva Stojilković told N1 that the movement is demanding the mayor’s detention and removal. According to her, Šapić held yesterday’s press conference “to justify himself before Vučić,” adding that “a politics of violence is the only thing left to the SNS.” She said Mićić’s testimony today would “prove and refute Šapić’s claims,” so that the public learns what really happened on the night of the incident.
Mayor Aleksandar Šapić physically attacked councillor Mićić two nights ago as she walked her dog with her husband in New Belgrade, following a prior verbal attack, while Šapić has denied the accusations. The opposition is also demanding his removal — BBC in Serbian writes that the opposition movement Kreni-Promeni has formally requested Šapić’s removal from office following the attack on its councillor.
