The Vlora Hyseni Case: Journalist Kikia Says There Are Three Reasons Why Intelligence Chiefs Get Involved in Espionage
Journalist Mentor Kikia has commented on the investigations into former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni, focusing on the reasons that could lead an intelligence service chief toward involvement in espionage.
Appearing on the “Off the Record” show on A2CNN, Kikia raised questions about how the gathered information may have been used and whether it could have served to influence the fight against crime. According to him, in such cases there can be three main motivations: financial gain, blackmail, or passion.
“What was this information used for? Why did this person take it — just out of curiosity? Was the information used to influence the fight against crime? Since we are talking about information related to crime, what is there? Operations, plans, who gets arrested, who gets wiretapped, who can be hit.
“If this information was given to criminal groups, and since we have an arrested businessman, where the security cameras disappeared, the whole picture shows that this is not simply a love story — a woman fell in love with a man, feeding his ego by handing him some files for him to read for fun.
“Secret-service people have three reasons when they get involved in espionage: they do it for money, generally; they do it because they are blackmailed. In the Cold War, blackmail was a weapon; sex was the biggest weapon — they would lure through a woman and blackmail to get documents, to provide information. Or they spy for passion. So there is a reason why they do it.”
