Tivat police officer arrested for bribery: he took 40 euros from a motorcyclist

Tivat police officer Danilo Barjaktarović was arrested on suspicion of taking a bribe from a motorcyclist, as Vijesti has learned from several unofficial sources, while Montenegro’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) officially confirmed the arrest and that the bribe amounted to 40 euros.

According to the MUP’s announcement, the investigation was opened last night by the police in cooperation with the MUP’s Internal Control Sector; investigators suspect that Barjaktarović, engaged in traffic safety duties, in August 2026 committed the criminal offence of accepting a bribe, and that he was filmed at the moment of taking the money.

In its announcement, the MUP explains that during a road traffic check on the Adriatic highway in Tivat, officer D.B. took from British citizen D.R. (54), who had previously committed a traffic offence, 40 euros — two 20-euro banknotes — acting within his official powers but with the aim of unlawful gain, and in exchange did not take the measures prescribed by law against the driver.

The entire incident, including the moment the money was handed over and received, was recorded by a camera mounted on the motorcycle driver’s helmet, and the footage was later published on his YouTube channel. The senior state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica was informed of the case, on whose order police officer D.B. was deprived of his liberty on suspicion of the criminal offence of accepting a bribe.

The MUP announced that British citizen D.R. is currently unavailable to law enforcement bodies; the police said that, through international police cooperation mechanisms, they will take measures to locate him and fully clarify all the circumstances, stressing that corrupt behaviour in the ranks of the police is unacceptable and inviting citizens to report any suspicion of corruption.
