Tragedy in Greece: Three young men from Fier killed in Athens car crash

Three young men from Fier, living in Athens, were tragically killed in the early hours of Thursday morning in a serious road accident in Glyfada, one of the Greek capital’s well-known areas.

Two other people were injured, one of them now in critical condition in hospital.

The tragic crash happened around 2 a.m. in the lanes heading toward Athens. The 23-year-old driver lost control in circumstances that are still unclear and slammed at extremely high speed into a hotel’s fence. The force of the impact destroyed the car almost completely, scattering debris over a wide area.

The collision killed the 23-year-old driver and two passengers, aged 18 and 26, instantly. There were five people in the car in total.

The two other passengers, both 18, were pulled from the vehicle by firefighters and rushed to the Nicea General State Hospital by EKAB ambulances. One of them is being treated intubated in the Intensive Care Unit, while the other suffered multiple injuries.

An eyewitness described the dramatic moments after the crash, saying a loud screech of brakes was heard first, followed by a deafening roar that shook the area.

Traffic police have opened a preliminary investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident and are collecting and reviewing footage from security cameras in the area.

According to initial information from authorities, the involvement of another vehicle in the crash has been ruled out.
