Tragedy of the Albanian family that lost 4 members on holiday in Greece, relatives of the victims arrive in Athens
What were planned as family holidays for a brother and sister, together with their partners — Albanians living in America — turned into tragedy after an explosion and the collapse of the building where they were staying in Greece.
The victims were identified as Florin Hoxha, his sister, Florida Hoxha, Eris Cani, Florin Hoxha’s wife, Ian Alexander Kirpatrick, Florida Hoxha’s husband, as well as the building’s owners, Edmond Hings and Athina Papapresku.
The grave incident happened on Friday, while today the victims’ relatives have arrived in Greece, after being summoned by the competent authorities of the Athens Forensic Service, to provide genetic material for DNA comparison and complete the process of identifying the bodies.
Investigations continue to determine what caused the powerful explosion that demolished the building serving as tourist accommodation.
For the third day, a team of the Hellenic Fire and Rescue Service, composed of ten specialized officers, is carrying out detailed checks, collecting and evaluating every element that could contribute to determining the circumstances of the tragedy.
Investigations by the competent authorities into the causes of the explosion have focused on the second-floor apartment, where the elderly couple lived, since, according to information so far, there is a strong indication that the explosion happened there.
According to information from competent sources, this apartment was the only one with a natural gas supply, used for the kitchen and a stove.
However, as has been made known, everything will have to be documented to determine whether the explosion was caused by a natural gas leak.
