Trump calls “hoax” report he offered Iran sanctions relief: “I offered nothing!”
U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed as false the report that he offered Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen funds, calling the article a “hoax” and demanding its immediate retraction. His reaction, as Al Jazeera reports, came hours after Axios reported that the president had offered Tehran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds as part of efforts to end the war.
“This is not true. I offered NOTHING! The Axios story, like most others, is a HOAX, used only to feed their ‘Trump derangement syndrome’,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. “They should retract this fake story, IMMEDIATELY!” he added.
The report dismissed by Trump referred, according to reports, to a supposed offer that included sanctions relief and access to frozen Iranian funds in exchange for progress toward ending the conflict. The president has categorically denied the existence of such an offer.
The denial comes at a moment when, according to U.S. officials who spoke to Al Jazeera, mediated talks with Iran continue to be “constructive”, but with no deal until the nuclear issues are addressed. Trump himself had in recent days dismissed the Iranian proposal of a seven-day ceasefire, calling it “unacceptable”.
Iran, for its part, insists it will not back down from its conditions. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is “fully prepared” for the war to resume, but also ready for diplomacy — the choice, he said, belongs to President Trump.
