Trump launches 32-day campaign marathon for November’s midterm elections
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he plans to hold campaign appearances across the country for 32 days before November’s midterm elections, placing himself at the center of Republicans’ efforts to keep control of Congress, at a time when polls predict gains for the Democrats.
The November 3 elections will determine whether Republicans will continue to control the House of Representatives and the Senate, or whether Democrats will manage to gather majorities in both chambers for the next two years of Trump’s term.
Many polls show Democrats leading in key states for control of the House of Representatives and well positioned to regain control of the Senate, as Americans worry about high energy costs and Trump’s ongoing war with Iran.
The American president told reporters outside the White House that he is confident in his party’s prospects and dismissed concerns that some Republicans are distancing themselves from him in the final days of the election campaign.
“You love me and I love them,” he said, with House Speaker Mike Johnson at his side.
Trump explained that this week he would start what he called a “32-day tour” in various states, including Texas and Ohio.
“Just so you understand, everybody wants me to go. I am a human being. Everybody wants me to make campaign appearances,” he noted.
Some Republican candidates have welcomed Trump’s participation in the campaign, although others are paying more importance to regional issues and their own achievements.
