Tyler Perry expands his film empire: launches new ‘Maxscene’ division, Courtney Glaudé’s thriller ‘Conditioned’ coming in 2027

Tyler Perry Studios has officially launched “Maxscene,” a new specialty production division dedicated to giving filmmakers with a distinctive voice and personal vision the guarantee of a theatrical release, as Deadline reports exclusively.

The first filmmaker to join the unit is Courtney Glaudé, a familiar name within the studio: producer of the hit series “Sistas,” who since 2024 has held the role of Executive Creator (Scripted and Unscripted) at Tyler Perry Studios. Glaudé has directed several seasons of the series “Sistas,” “Ruthless” and “Zatima,” while in 2023 he made his feature-film directorial debut with “The Reading,” released on BET+.

The first project to be made under the Maxscene umbrella is “Conditioned,” a psychological thriller that Glaudé is writing and directing himself. Plot details are being kept secret, while the theatrical release date is planned for early 2027.

Glaudé described the partnership as “historic”: “It’s exciting to see that a studio has not given up on creators, especially given the state of the industry… as an indie filmmaker, these waters can sometimes seem impossible to navigate,” he said, thanking in particular Antoinetta Stallings, Head of Development & Acquisitions at Tyler Perry Studios, whom he called a “visionary” and who will lead the new division.

For her part, Stallings said that “Courtney is exactly the type of filmmaker we had in mind for Maxscene to champion… his films are rooted in reality, but there is always a darkness underneath that draws you in,” adding that “Conditioned” will use “tension and psychological uncertainty to explore deeply human issues” that people would otherwise not want to talk about.

Meanwhile, Perry himself is also busy: he is preparing a new film for Netflix starring Taylour Paige, the star of “I Love Boosters,” in the lead role.
