Von der Leyen: Commission to Soon Present Roadmap for Most Advanced Candidates
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in her annual State of the Union address that the Commission will soon present a roadmap for the most advanced candidate countries toward EU membership.
The announcement was welcomed by Tomas Weiss, chair of the EU–Montenegro Parliamentary Committee for Stabilization and Association. In a statement to RTCG’s correspondent in Brussels, Weiss said Montenegro remains on a good path and that accession negotiations are close to finalization, while most of his colleagues still expect the talks to close by the end of the year.
Weiss stressed that the number of chapters announced to be closed in September may look disappointing, but underlined the pressure to finalize negotiations ahead of the elections in Montenegro.
He also welcomed von der Leyen’s words, who condemned the footage from Ratko Mladić’s funeral in Belgrade last week.
