Von der Leyen in Podgorica on October 1: Meetings with Milatović and Spajić on Next Steps Toward the EU

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Montenegro on Thursday, October 1, as part of her Balkan tour. The news was officially announced by the European Commission and first reported by Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG).

During her visit to Podgorica, von der Leyen will meet President Jakov Milatović and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, with whom she is expected to discuss the country’s next steps on the road to the European Union.

This is the sixth consecutive year the Commission president has traveled to the Western Balkans. The visit will focus on the partners’ next steps on the European path and current progress in gradual integration, supported by the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

In addition to Podgorica, von der Leyen will visit Tirana, Prishtina and Skopje. She aims to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia later, in light of upcoming parliamentary and general elections there.
