Why did Gisele Bündchen split from Tom Brady? New book reveals the behind-the-scenes story

Gisele Bündchen had told her ex-husband, Tom Brady, that they were “no longer a good fit” for each other shortly before ending their 13-year marriage in 2022, according to a new book about the NFL star.

In the upcoming “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” author Lars Anderson quotes a person close to Brady who claims that Bündchen — passionate about astrology — once told her husband: “We are not a good fit.”

“And just like that, she had made her decision,” the book says, according to an excerpt obtained by the Daily Mail.

According to Anderson, Brady’s desire to continue his American football career weighed on their marriage. Bündchen is said to have asked him to retire as early as 2017, when the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons.

After the victory, the model is said to have gone onto the field to celebrate with Brady — but instead of congratulating him, she asked: “Wouldn’t this be the perfect moment to retire?”

Brady reportedly replied: “Unfortunately, honey. I’m having too much fun right now.”

According to the book, a few weeks later Bündchen asked one of Brady’s former teammates, Jay Feely, to convince him to retire for the sake of the family.

Feely has previously said she was “very serious” about the request, but he told Brady he should play for as long as he wanted.

In 2018, after the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, Bündchen is said to have written Brady a letter asking him to be more present in the family.

According to Anderson, she wanted Brady not to be constantly on his phone or replaying games when he was at home. She also wanted more help with the children, more opportunities to sleep, and more time for her career.

Brady initially retired from football in February 2022, but just a month later he reversed his decision and announced he would return to the field.

“I have realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now,” he wrote at the time.

According to the book, his decision upset Bündchen, who left for a while for Costa Rica. Anderson also claims the return to training camp affected Brady, who had lost weight and seemed distracted.

In the end, the couple announced their divorce on October 28, 2022, after 13 years of marriage.

“We have grown apart and, although it is certainly difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we spent together and I always wish Tom the best,” Bündchen wrote at the time.

Brady and Bündchen have two children together, Benjamin and Vivian.
