Xolo Maridueña makes Broadway debut: “Cobra Kai” star joins “Buena Vista Social Club”
Screen star Xolo Maridueña, known from the series “Cobra Kai” and the film “Practical Magic 2,” is making his Broadway debut. As Playbill reports, the actor will play Juan De Marcos in the musical “Buena Vista Social Club” at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, for a seven-week engagement from November 17, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
“I’m honored to be making my Broadway debut with the extraordinarily talented team of ‘Buena Vista Social Club,'” Maridueña says in his statement. “Broadway has always been a dream, but to realize that dream as part of such an important and beautiful story is like winning the lottery twice. Get ready to laugh, cry, and dance!”
Maridueña is the latest face to join the musical. As Playbill writes, former Mets player José “Candelita” Iglesias joined the cast on August 27 as the Narrator (staying through November 15), while Yankees legend Bernie Williams, a Latin Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist, joins the musical’s band from October 22 to November 29. TV star Gina Torres will play Omara Portuondo from October 13 to November 29, replacing Tony winner Natalie Venetia Belcon, who is taking a break to play Claudia in “In the Heights” at New York City Center.
“Buena Vista Social Club,” which opened March 19, 2025 at the Schoenfeld Theatre, was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2025, winning five. Inspired by the Grammy-winning album of the same name, the musical brings the album to life and tells the story of the legends who lived it, with a book by Marco Ramirez and direction by Saheem Ali.
