Ahead of the Verdict on Former KLA Leaders in The Hague, Kosovo Police Take Security Measures

Kosovo Police has announced it has taken the necessary security measures ahead of September 16, the date when the final verdict of the Special Court in The Hague against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army is expected to be announced.

According to the Police, the measures aim to preserve public order and peace, provide security for citizens and ensure the smooth running of activities that may take place on this day.

“Kosovo Police, regarding the developments foreseen for September 16, when the final verdict of the Special Court in The Hague against former KLA leaders is expected, has taken the necessary police measures to provide security, preserve public order and peace, and ensure the smooth running of all activities foreseen,” the KP announcement reads.

The Police announced that as part of the preparations, coordination meetings have been held with heads of departments, divisions and regional directorates, as well as with international partners.

“Such a meeting was also held today at the KP General Directorate, where the plan and police engagements regarding the developments foreseen related to September 16 were presented,” the statement reads.

In these meetings, according to the Police, representatives of KFOR, EULEX, the U.S. Embassy, the European Union Office and the OSCE also took part.

The KP stressed it will provide security for all citizens, while police units will be engaged on the ground depending on developments and activities that may be organized.

“Kosovo Police, according to its official duty and the legislation in force, will provide security for all citizens without distinction, and will engage with police units so that the smooth running of all activities and possible developments pass calmly and without incidents,” the announcement reads.

Meanwhile, the Police has warned that depending on activities there may be temporary restrictions or interruptions of traffic on roads where gatherings or activities may take place.

For this reason, according to the KP, traffic unit engagements have also been planned, which will redirect traffic to alternative roads if needed.

The Police has called on citizens and participants in possible activities to respect the instructions of police officers and to contribute to a calm and safe atmosphere.

“Planning and taking security measures in cases where developments, activities, or large citizen participation are expected, drafting and implementing police plans are part of regular police procedures, serving in the interest of general security,” the Police stressed.

Finally, the KP thanked citizens for their understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that their security and the smooth running of activities remain its priorities.

“Police officers will be present on the ground to guarantee constitutional order and public security in the country,” reads the Kosovo Police statement.
