Airstrikes on Houthi positions near Taiz in western Yemen

Warplanes have struck a Houthi gathering in the al-Sharajah area of the Jabal Habashi district, west of the city of Taiz, the military media of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announces, as Al Jazeera reports.

Further details are expected to be published.

The strike comes amid fierce fighting that has engulfed the province of Taiz in recent days, where government forces and the Houthis are clashing for control of strategic areas. The city of Taiz remains one of the hottest fronts of the conflict in Yemen.

The escalation of the fighting in Yemen is taking place in parallel with the Houthis’ campaign of attacks against Saudi Arabia and with the operations of the Riyadh-led coalition, within the broader U.S.-Iran war, which has entered its eighth month.
