Alonso takes a dig at rival Hamilton after the Sepang race: They owe us an explanation!

Fernando Alonso drove a fantastic race at Sepang, where he recovered many positions and finished in 8th place. After the race, the Spanish driver did not miss the chance to take a dig at Englishman Lewis Hamilton. The episode that sparked controversy was the problem the Ferrari driver had on the formation lap and the FIA’s decision that allowed the 41-year-old to start from the position he had, rather than from the back.

“They owe us an explanation, because this year I have retired in the middle of races and the race has never been stopped because of retirements,” Alonso said. “Hamilton was off the track and had quite a lot of stress. I think there is a lot of technology and the spectators cannot manage to understand it.”

The FIA explained its decision not to penalise Hamilton as follows: “There was an error in the software provided by us for wet track conditions. It is not a matter of a mistake by the teams. We need to update these settings and the software we provide to the teams.”
