Andrew Schulz joins the cast of ‘Miami Vice ’85’: comedian added to Joseph Kosinski’s project alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler

Andrew Schulz has joined the cast of “Miami Vice ’85”, director Joseph Kosinski’s new film, as first announced by Deadline and reported by ComingSoon. The well-known comedian and podcaster thus joins one of Universal Pictures’ most anticipated projects.

The project is headlined by Michael B. Jordan, who will play detective Ricardo Tubbs, and Austin Butler as James “Sonny” Crockett. Details about the character Schulz will play have not yet been made public.

The ensemble cast is taking ever more impressive shape: John Leguizamo will be the film’s main antagonist, while Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez have also been confirmed in other roles. The script was written by Dan Gilroy, inspired by the pilot episode of the original NBC series (1984–1990), with an earlier draft by Eric Warren Singer; the original characters were created by Anthony Yerkovich.

Kosinski will direct and produce the film through Dylan Clark Productions together with Dylan Clark. Universal has planned filming for IMAX, while production is expected to begin later this year. The release date is set for May 19, 2028.

For Schulz, this is another step in his rising acting career. He is known from the Netflix series “Tires”, the MGM comedy “Underdoggs” alongside Snoop Dogg, as well as the films “The Thicket” with Peter Dinklage, “You People” with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill, and “White Men Can’t Jump” with Jack Harlow. He will soon also appear in the live-action “Street Fighter” film, and has finished shooting Apple’s sports film “Running”.

The comedian is also reaping success on stage: his “Life” world tour has sold out major venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum, the Crypto.com Arena and the Scotiabank Arena, while his Netflix special “Life” was recorded at the Beacon Theatre.
