Carrie Coon to receive first Luminary Award at Vancouver film festival as ‘The Liberation’ screens on ceremony day
American actress Carrie Coon will be honored with the Vancouver International Film Festival’s (VIFF) new “Luminary Award”, becoming the first recipient of the prize in the acting category, as Variety reports. The festival’s new award, according to the organizers, recognizes “brilliance and dedication to the art of the moving image”.
The presentation ceremony will take place on October 4, followed by a wide-ranging on-stage conversation with the actress as part of the festival. This year’s VIFF runs from October 1 to 11 in Vancouver, Canada.
On the same day, the festival will also screen her newest film, “The Liberation”, in which Coon plays a mother trying to escape her painful past who finds solace in an all-women cult.
Alongside Coon, the Luminary Award will also honor director Markus Schleinzer (“Rose”) for excellence in directing and screenwriter Leah Nelson (“Tangles”) for screenwriting.
Coon is known to international audiences for her role in the third season of “The White Lotus”, for which she received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, as well as for her performances in “The Gilded Age”, “The Leftovers” and “Fargo”.
The VIFF Talks series, meanwhile, opens on October 3 with editor Matthew Hannam, known for his work on “Babygirl” and “White Noise”.
