Karthi’s “Sardar 2” arrives on Prime Video October 1: the spy thriller with a double lead role

The spy thriller “Sardar 2”, with Karthi in a dual role, arrives on the Amazon Prime Video platform on October 1, 2026, just 21 days after its theatrical release on September 10, according to Track Tollywood. The film will be available in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

“Sardar 2” is the sequel to the 2022 hit “Sardar”, with P. S. Mithran as writer and director. Karthi plays two characters: veteran officer Chandra Bose and his son, inspector Vijay Prakash. The cast also includes SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan and Yogi Babu.

The story follows Vijay Prakash, who is forced to reunite with his father, the legendary spy Sardar, when a national security threat erupts: an international group of mercenaries seeks to unleash a deadly biochemical weapon called “Doku”. Haunted by a past tragedy that claimed 3,000 lives, Chandra Bose comes out of exile to stop the weapon’s activation — a race in which father and son follow historical and technical trails to three access keys hidden by former agents, with the help of a doctor.

Beyond the action, the film also tackles the overuse of antibiotics and rising bacterial resistance, a social layer that sets it apart from classic spy thrillers. The music is by Sam C. S., the cinematography by George C. Williams, and the production by Prince Pictures and Ivy Entertainment. As Pinkvilla notes, the film is being talked about as one of the strongest Tamil films of the year in the action-spy segment.
