BBC: Vucic attacks ally Toncev, diaspora registers in record numbers ahead of the 25 October elections
As BBC Serbian reports in its election roundup, the campaign for the early parliamentary elections of 25 October is heating up: Aleksandar Vucic, the leader of the list “Aleksandar Vucic – United Serbia”, attacked today in Vranje the deputy chairman of his coalition partner, the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Novica Toncev, telling him: “Politics is not trade and I will not accept haggling… that practice is over.” “I will not beg you, go freely with them, because in these days you showed me that you have no idea or ideology, no programme and no plan; you are traders,” Vucic is quoted as saying by the Beta agency, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, the deadline for voter registration abroad ends tonight (3 October) at midnight. As the BBC reported, Sofija Mandic of the Republican Election Commission (RIK) said that around 75,000 applications have been recorded so far — a record figure, compared with 39,000 registrations in the previous elections, in which around 30,000 people voted.
Today, the Student List “Students Win” is holding in central Novi Pazar, the Bosniak-majority city in southwestern Serbia, the pre-election rally “3 for 3”, where the organisers have announced speakers from the Student List.
The BBC roundup also notes the latest televised debate, in which Ana Brnabic (third on the list “Aleksandar Vucic – United Serbia”), Vladan Kuzmanovic (Student List), Dunja Simonovic Bratic (the list “Ivica Dacic – Factor of Stability”) and Marinika Tepic (European Serbia) took part. The Student List itself declared that it is against imposing sanctions on Russia — just like the ruling side.
