Conviction of KLA Leaders, Analyst Vangjeli: After Winning the War, a Battle Was Lost on September 16!

Analyst Lorenc Vangjeli said on the “Trialog” program on RTSH24 that the September 16 ruling in The Hague was the loss of a battle after the victory of the Kosovo war.

According to Vangjeli, there is an unfortunate axiom that follows the Albanian nation like a curse:

“What we manage to win with blood, with pain, with extraordinary sacrifices in war, we lose with criminal recklessness in peace. What was won 27 years ago over the sky and land of Kosovo, that is, the war that was won — a battle was lost last week in The Hague.”

The analyst stressed that this moment goes far beyond the specific event and highlights a dramatic difference with the northern neighbors.

“If we in Albania, in Tirana or in Pristina, keep talking about individuals, about the relations between them, about their relations with power, the Serbs, on the contrary, have institutional continuity, they have institutional memory toward their strategic goal and objective,” Vangjeli said.

Vangjeli noted that the main political figures in Pristina, over the past 10–15 years, have often gone further than the Hague judges in mutual accusations.

“If you listen to the main political figures over at least these past 10–15 years in Pristina, what they have said about one another and in relation to what they have done — I doubt they have been any gentler than the judges, only they did not pronounce their sentence. They too have spoken in the name of Kosovo, but they made the very same accusations which the judges ratified,” Vangjeli said.

According to him, this is a moment of reflection far more important than the ruling itself.

“And this is a moment, a moment of reflection, I believe far greater, to show us what is not right among us, what goes wrong among us, and I believe it is one and only one: the frightening and criminal greed for power,” he stressed further.

Vangjeli concluded by saying that the necessary reflection must go beyond individuals and touch the collective:

“This should have been, I believe, our reflection that goes far beyond even the extraordinarily painful event of the transformation by which an almost mysterious alchemy turned those men, commanders and heroes of a war, into convicts, into criminal culprits.”
