Student List student attacked with a grass scythe in Grocka during door-to-door campaigning
A student of the “Students in Blockade” movement was attacked today with a grass scythe during the “door-to-door” action in the territory of the Grocka municipality in Belgrade, as the Nova.rs portal reports. According to the students’ announcement, the young people properly introduced themselves to the man who opened the door, who told them he knew who they were and that he had worked at the University for 30 years, and then pushed one of them.
When another student told him not to do that, the man, according to the students, took the grass scythe and cut his hand. The injured man suffered cuts to his palm and was taken to the Emergency Centre, where he waited for treatment, while police took statements from those involved in the event at the health institution, Newsmax Balkans writes.
In the announcement, the students describe the incident as part of a wider atmosphere of violence against them, but stress that the attack will not drive them away from the “door-to-door” actions. “We were not frightened and we will not give up,” they said, adding that they will continue conversations with citizens across Serbia.
The SSP movement in Grocka reacted by calling the incident the second attack on students in Kaluđerica within 20 days and saying it is “not a coincidence”, according to Nova.rs reporting.
The “door-to-door” action is part of the campaign of the Student List “Students Win” for the snap parliamentary elections of October 25, under which students are holding conversations with citizens in towns and villages across Serbia.
