DNP to boycott tomorrow’s session on Mandić’s dismissal: “We will never make a move that would enable it”

The parliamentary club of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) announced today that it will not take part in the extraordinary session of the Parliament of Montenegro, scheduled for Thursday (September 24) at 12:00, on whose agenda is the debate on the dismissal of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić.

According to the announcement, the decision followed a conversation between DNP leader Milan Knežević and Mandić himself. Just days earlier, the DNP had said it would take part in the session and vote against the dismissal. But, as announcements from majority parties and several MPs indicate, there appears to be an agreement among the initiators of the motion, making the DNP’s vote unnecessary to stop the dismissal.

“Although the DNP left the parliamentary majority in January, the DNP parliamentary club will never make a move that would enable the dismissal of Andrija Mandić, and that will also be the case tomorrow,” the parliamentary club’s announcement says.

The motion to dismiss Mandić, proposed by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), has been signed by 35 MPs: 16 from DPS, 3 from the European Alliance, 6 from the Bosniak Party, 4 from URA, the Democratic Union of Albanians, the Croatian Civic Initiative, independent MPs Nikola Janović and Miodrag Laković, as well as Artan Çobi of the Albanian Forum and Ilir Çapuni.

The immediate trigger for the motion is the public condolence Mandić expressed over the death of Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide in Srebrenica. Meanwhile, Mandić himself recently stated that the necessary majority to dismiss him does not exist.
