Fire in Peqin, suspected arsonist taken in by police

Three days after fires broke out in the villages of Peqin, police have taken in a person suspected of having started the fire.

According to initial suspicions, the person lit a fire for his own needs, but the flames spread rapidly across areas of brush and vegetation, fanned also by strong winds.

Meanwhile, hundreds of personnel and dozens of vehicles from 11 municipalities have been engaged on the ground since 05:00 this morning, in an effort to bring the active fire fronts under control.

Because of the fire’s dynamics and the constantly shifting wind, an uninhabited house has been engulfed by the flames.
