Meta presents Muse Gadgets: an open-source project for devices that connect to the Muse AI
Meta presented “Muse Gadgets” on Friday, an open-source project that lets developers build their own hardware that connects to Muse, Meta’s personal artificial intelligence agent, as TechCrunch reports. The company offers open-source firmware, an SDK for Linux and project ideas — among them a colour e-ink display for Muse, or a stick that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port.
Developers can use cheap hobbyist computers such as the Raspberry Pi or the ESP32 board and connect Muse to “screens, buttons, sensors, actuators and everything else you have on your desk”, as Meta itself writes. To support users, the company has also opened a Discord channel.
Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, wrote on X that Meta itself has built a device called “Muse Home Link”: a USB-C device that connects Muse to the home network and enables it to communicate with smart devices, including smart speakers and televisions. Meta produced 5,000 Home Links and is giving them away free to Muse subscribers while stocks last; according to Friedman, shipments start in a few weeks.
The initiative fits with Meta’s strategy to make Muse more than a chatbot: the company is pushing it not only to consumers, but also to small businesses and enterprises. Just this week, Meta presented “Muse for Small Business” — free with usage limits, with connections to Shopify, Dropbox and Slack — and a new business unit, “Meta Enterprise Platform”.
