Iran files complaint at the UN over US sanctions on the aviation sector

Iran has filed a complaint at the UN over US sanctions against its aviation sector, which have forced flight cancellations.

“To protect the legitimate rights of the aviation industry and to counter the unlawful restrictions imposed by America, Iran has drafted and filed a formal protest at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),” said civil aviation chief Abouzar Shiroudi.

ICAO is a UN agency headquartered in Montreal, Canada, that sets and regulates standards for civil aviation.

“In cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, we have also filed a complaint at the International Court of Justice in The Hague,” Shiroudi added.

Earlier this month, the United States imposed restrictions on Iran’s aviation industry and warned international companies that they would face consequences if they continued working with Iranian airlines.
