The comedy “Rolling Loud: The Movie” arrives in cinemas today, with Owen Wilson and rapper Travis Scott in the leading roles, as ComingSoon reports. The film, written, directed and produced by Jeremy Garelick, turns into a comic story one of the most frightening incidents of the director’s life: the day he secretly took his 13-year-old son to the world’s biggest hip-hop festival, against his wife’s wishes, and lost him in the huge crowd.
Garelick has said that his first reaction was dominated by “anxiety, fear and absurdity,” but the sheer chaos of that day turned over time into a story he could laugh about — and then into a film. At the centre of the comedy is an overprotective father who tries “very hard to look cool,” in a way that Wilson makes believable and relatable.
Alongside Wilson and Scott, the star cast includes comedian Matt Rife, Christine Ko, Christian Convery, Olivia Luccardi, Henry Winkler, Jolene Blalock, as well as rappers Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign and Ski Mask the Slump God. Scott plays the role of the festival’s headline artist, the perfect stage for a father’s misguided rescue mission.
According to ComingSoon, while the film immerses the audience in the chaotic world of modern hip-hop culture, at its core it remains an authentic story about a parent struggling not to feel like a stranger to his own child.
