Kurti: 37,000 Albanian Books for Valley Students, Despite Serbia’s Blockade
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced that for the 2026/2027 school year, 37,429 books in Albanian and foreign languages have been distributed to Albanian students in the Preševo Valley.
Kurti said the books were distributed to 3,686 students in 15 primary schools teaching in Albanian, from first to eighth grade.
According to him, the distribution was carried out through the Albanian National Council, while support for Albanian-language education in Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa continues this year as well.
Kurti criticized Belgrade, saying that during January and April of this year Serbia blocked and refused Kosovo Government funds dedicated to the Albanians of the Preševo Valley.
“Despite the fact that in January and April of this year Serbia blocked and refused Kosovo Government funds dedicated to the Albanians of the Preševo Valley, we will stand by every student in Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa,” Kurti wrote.
He stressed that the Kosovo Government has supported equipping Albanian students in these three municipalities with free books since 2022.
“We are continuing this commitment this year as well, because children should not pay the price of undeserved obstacles and discrimination by Belgrade,” Kurti stated.
The prime minister added that Kosovo’s support for Albanian-language education is sustainable, stressing that “the Albanians of the Valley are not alone.” /Telegrafi/
