Larijani: Iran has increased its missile range – it can strike anywhere U.S. forces withdraw to
Iran will increase the range of its long-range missiles, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, declared in an interview for state television, as Al Jazeera reports.
“During this war, we reached the conclusion that we must necessarily increase the range of our missiles and we have now achieved this goal and can strike any point where [the U.S.] withdraws,” Larijani is quoted as saying.
The statement comes at a moment when U.S. forces have positioned themselves up to 1,000 kilometres (about 620 miles) away from the main shipping routes in the Persian Gulf, according to the same reporting.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Tehran on Sunday that he hopes Washington’s proposal to end the war will be “realistic and workable”.
According to sources cited by Reuters on Thursday, Iran is preparing a broader and harsher response if the U.S. and Israel again launch attacks against the country: “If they again go toward military solutions, we are more prepared than before and will take every necessary action to defend ourselves,” an official is quoted as saying.
The U.S.-Iran war began on February 28, 2026; the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and gas passed before the war, remains closed to commercial vessels.
