Protest continues in Pristina for the 18th night, protesters march toward the Assembly
For the 18th consecutive day, the protest is continuing in “Skanderbeg” Square in Pristina, organised in opposition to the verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
The protesters, who first gathered in the capital’s central square, have begun marching toward the Kosovo Assembly.
During the protest, the decision of the Government of Kosovo to send to the Assembly the draft law on amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers was welcomed.
The Government, on Friday evening, 2 October, announced that it has approved the decision on this draft law and has forwarded it to the Assembly. The draft law was proposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo and was then sent to the Government for review.
The protesters welcomed the Government’s decision, while during the protest it was stressed that now “the ball is with the Assembly and the deputies.”
They have asked the deputies to approve the draft law on amending and supplementing the Law on the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
The protests have been held for 18 consecutive days after the verdict against the former KLA leaders, who were sentenced to a total of 81 years in prison, Telegrafi reports.
