Novica Antić: Interior Ministry Classified Information on LRAD Devices Used at March 15 Protest as ‘Top Secret’
The former president of the Military Union of Serbia, Novica Antić, has told the Nova newspaper that the Interior Ministry (MUP) gave no answer to the question of how many “LRAD” acoustic devices were deployed at the March 15 student protest, where the use of a “sound cannon” is suspected, saying this information is “top secret”.
According to Antić, the MUP said that data on the number of devices, models, locations and police superiors are part of the rally’s Security Plan — a document marked “top secret”.
He claims that under Article 3 of the Law on Data Secrecy, information cannot be declared secret when it is marked to conceal a criminal offence or an overstepping of authority.
Antić says the MUP, with its written response, “admitted a series of disputed facts”: that the procurement was made through a negotiated procedure via the public company “Jugoimport SDPR” for the needs of the Gendarmerie, the SAJ and the Police Brigade; and that the MUP has a total of 16 such devices, which were brought out onto the streets on March 15.
Also, according to him, the police have no documents proving the training of officers, the relevant certificates or knowledge of the manufacturer’s health warnings, while documents on technical interventions and the locking of the devices’ operating modes are missing.
He calls the “top secret” classification an unlawful attempt to shield those responsible from criminal and command responsibility.
