OCS: Conflict in Serbian basketball threatens the integrity of sport and the Olympic movement

The Olympic Committee of Serbia (OKS), after an extraordinary session of its Executive Board, has expressed serious concern over the state of Serbian basketball and the consequences that the disputes could have on the integrity of sport and the Olympic movement in Serbia.

The conflict is between the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS) and the association of clubs of the Serbian Basketball League (KLS) over who organizes the domestic championship, and has escalated around the jurisdiction of the OKS’s Permanent Sports Arbitration, which the KSS disputes.

The OKS said it would not take sides, but must react when the consequences go beyond one sport; it called on all responsible actors — club executives and KSS bodies — to act without delay to return basketball to legality, institutional accountability and legal certainty.

The Olympic Committee also announced that it would take legal and institutional measures under the Law on Sport, stressing that it would not engage in public polemics and that this was its only statement on the matter.
