One-year deal for John Konchar as Knicks add wing depth

The New York Knicks have signed veteran wing John Konchar to a one-year deal, adding a defensive option on the wing and more depth for next season. Due to the crowded group at the guard and small forward positions, he is expected to play a rotational role rather than carry a starter’s workload.

As Bleacher Report reports, the Knicks’ updated depth chart is: PG: Jalen Brunson, Miles McBride, Jose Alvarado, Tyler Kolek. SG: Josh Hart, Jordan Clarkson. SF: Mikal Bridges, Landry Shamet, John Konchar. PF: OG Anunoby, Mohamed Diawara, Pacôme Dadiet. C: Karl-Anthony Towns, Andre Drummond.

Konchar, 30, played 56 games last season for the Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz, averaging 4.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from three-point range. In his career he averages 4.3 points per game, mostly as a rotation player for the Grizzlies before a brief stint with Utah. The Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors were also interested in his services, but he chose to join the reigning champions.

The need for a third center for the Knicks remains open, but the Konchar signing is expected to consolidate the roster’s contours barring a potential trade, according to Bleacher Report.
