Only 3 Ships Crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday — Maritime Traffic at Lowest Level Since Start of War
Only three cargo ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday — the lowest daily figure since the outbreak of war, according to data from maritime analytics firm Kpler, cited by news agency Reuters.
The figures show a steady decline: from four ships on Monday to three on Tuesday, while last week seven were crossing. Kpler notes the numbers may change, as some ships typically switch off their transponders during the most sensitive legs of the journey.
Traffic through this vital waterway has fallen since the war broke out on Saturday, when Israel and the United States launched their attack on Iran. Iranian forces have responded by firing on merchant ships and laying naval mines in the strait, through which around 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas trade passes.
According to Kpler, traffic has been reduced to two to four ships per day, compared with around 15 ships per day before the conflict began.
