Parliament: DP Demands Change of Agenda; Berisha Calls It “the Most Shameful Session” and a “Total Collapse of State Security”

The plenary session of the Albanian Parliament began with debates, immediately after Speaker Niko Peleshi read the agenda.

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha took the floor to denounce what he described as links between the state and organized crime, referring also to the arrest measure against the head of the National Intelligence Service.

Berisha called the session “the most shameful” in the history of Parliament and leveled strong accusations at the majority.

“This session will go down in history as the most shameful session. Today parliament convenes as the parliament of Ergys Agasi, as the most irresponsible in the history of a country,” Berisha declared.

According to Berisha, Hyseni’s arrest is a grave violation of national security.

“Today, for every Albanian, it is the total collapse of the country’s security, since the head of the Intelligence Service turns out to be a vile member of the Agasi structured criminal group,” the DP leader said.

Berisha also revived his earlier accusations against Ergys Agasi, claiming he controlled criminal activities and state secrets.

“I have warned that Agasi is the most dangerous mafioso in Europe, that he controlled all drug cartels, all the secrets of this state,” Berisha said.

Before the session began, the Democratic Party demanded a change of the agenda in Parliament, following recent developments related to the arrest of former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni.

In a request addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, the opposition asked that the interpellations with ministers Sofjan Jaupaj and Mirela Kumbaro be removed from the agenda.

In their place, the DP demanded a debate with Prime Minister Edi Rama on the situation at the State Intelligence Service and the developments following the house-arrest measure against the institution’s former director.
